DIY Decking? No Thanks

Every time we have a job that is required in our household, and when I say “job” I don’t mean the washing up or wiping up the toddlers attempt at eating dinner. I mean a really large DIY job.

A job where you just think that it’s either going to cost you a fortune to have someone come out and do it, or its going to cost you about 6 years of your life to get it finished. Every time my wife and I fall out.
The problem with living in Devon is that any “outside” do it yourself job, has the age old issue of when the weather is good – you just want to piss off down the beach, when its wet weather, well it’s a perfect excuse to not do what you told yourself you definitely were going to do.
So my task was some simple outside decking for our patio.

I thought that a man of my calibre and vast years of bodged DIY jobs could knock up a bit of decking in a matter of a couple of weekends. My loving and loyal wife of many years had doubts right from the start, bless her cotton socks, goddam her negative doubting – I can do this!

All I had to do was order the materials, get my tool box out and off I go. Well I did make a start, I ordered the timber and then…… well ‘erm it kind of sat there for at least 3 weeks with its cellophane completely intact.
It wasn’t until I had a few mates around for the football (an Argyle man through and through), that I even considered getting a local contractor to do the bloody work.

My wife kept saying to me “I know this guy called Kevin and he works for this Plymouth decking company” and obviously they had done a fantastic job of Aunty Deidre’s garden decking at number 26!
Ok, OK so I am a useless and I haven’t achieved anything. So in the end I bit the bullet and I just rang the bloody company up to come and give me a quote, just so I could go back to lovely wifey and tell her that she wouldn’t be going on holiday for the next decade because of how much it cost.
To cut a short story even shorter, Plymouth Quality Decking came around and showed me a way in which they could install my decking for a comfortable price so I said yes. And I must mention them here because credit where credit is due, they did a marvellous job, it was done in a day and I had a happy, not so moany, wife. At least for a short while anyway.
We are now enjoying alfresco dining on our lovely deck so if you need some decking I do recommend them and if you mention me I get a referral bonus as well, wink wink!

What to Consider When Looking For A Tree Surgeon In Plymouth

Tree surgery is among the best methods that individuals can get trees right on their own property nourished back to good health. If you have great number of trees on your property, it is necessary to look after them in order to ensure that the trees grow and at the same time thrive for the decades to come. On the other hand, you will need to ask for the help of professionals if you encounter a certain problem. Like any local business such as roofing, plumbing, building and plastering they must be able to offer a wide range of services to serve a variety of customers and be able to take on complex jobs.

Many things are there to consider in tree care. Professional tree surgeon has what it takes to balance the tree removal and branches in order to save trees that you want to save and at the same time address the trees’ physical needs right in their current location and state.

Understanding Tree Surgery

There is a need to understand that this is not a surgery, but you may have trees with many branches that hang precariously right over the roof. The methods of removing the branches or the entire tree can definitely transform your own landscaping at home.

Keep in mind that there is a great number of equipment that could be considered important when having a tree surgery. Tree surgeon must have an access to the stump grinder for the stamp removal along with skid loader or even a 4×4 tractor necessary for cleaning as well as removing the debris. Without the use of right equipment, it could be very difficult to complete the aspect of the operation depending on various circumstances. Many people would have a selective type of tree removal and some may use a professional tree removal in order to transform the undeveloped land into a more natural and beautiful building site.

Employee Liability and Insurance

Another thing that you should look for in hiring a certified and trained Arborist, is the company has liability as well as employee liability insurance. Experts have a wide understanding when it comes to controlling the tree hazards brought by tree surgery and other types of the failure patents. These are all important because the trees that are managed by proper pruning would seldom fail.

A Wide Range of Services

When hiring for professional and skilled tree surgery experts, there is a need to look for a certain company that primarily provides tree surveys, tree felling, waste shredding, stump removal, safety and health reports, and planning reports in the large trees. Moreover, you should also be aware on the cost of tree removal. This will help you find the company that offers services that come in cost competitive prices.

You only want experts who understand the tree diseases and at the same time provide a knowledgeable survey and have proper equipment and training. With this, you will have an assurance that your trees on your property will give an extra appeal on the entire area.

Stay in a big log chalet and have your meeting. Best of both

Some of the log chalets around Plymouth and surrounding areas, have log chalets that are family sizes. But have you ever thought about having a business meeting in one of them? When I used to work away, we would all stay in different Travelodge’s.

Sometimes, we would be lucky enough to find one with a meeting room inside the hotel so that we could have our meetings in there, but it was pricey. So, after my amazing experience with a log chalet, in a meeting at work I discussed how I felt.

I decided to tell them about the log chalet, my experience and how I thought that it could be a good idea to have a meeting in such a relaxed environment! For me, when you are comfortable and relaxed, your brain works easier to when you’re stressed out and restless.

Log Chalets vs Travelodge’s

  • A Travelodge is a cheap alternative to a hotel, although some Travelodge’s are now even more expensive to a standard hotel.
  • You sometimes get a complimentary breakfast, but often it is just a reception desk when you walk in and you’re left to your own devices.
  • Big comfy beds with soft mattresses for a great night sleep.
  • Separate rooms

Log Chalet

  • It is your personal space for the remainder of your stay.
  • Often, you can stay in a log chalet that has perks to it like: an open fire, sauna, big bath, hot tub, patio, French windows and steam rooms etc.
  • Big comfy beds to sleep in to ensure you are at your comfiest.
  • Cooking facilities so you can cook whatever you like in the comfort of your own personal space.
  • You can walk in and out as freely as you please.
  • Separate rooms but you are all still together

As you can see, log chalets and Travelodge’s are different in many ways. So next time you are going on a business trip… remember, why not stay in a log chalet? It is a great experience for your colleagues and in my experience, it brings more thoughts and more answers to a meeting with people being so relaxed.

A taxi is always a good way of getting from A to B and there are many taxi companies in Plymouth and surroundings areas that can give you the perfect customer service and get you to where you want to go, on time, safely and will also give you a lovely experience whilst you are with them, throughout your journey.

Always ensure that all of your essentials are packed and ready. Things like a toothbrush, phone chargers, underwear and other important things, these are things that should always be taken away with you!

Plymouth, luckily, holds a lot of shops that you can get lots of different supplies from and can really save you if you find that you are in a bit of a crisis! So, anything you do accidentally leave behind, you are always covered by a shop, somewhere in Plymouth or its surrounding areas!

Always plan ahead. If you want the best out of your holiday, you should always know what is available where you are heading too. In Plymouth, there are so many different activities to do, you are spoilt for choice! So planning ahead is really essential so that you can aim to do all of the different activities you really wanted to do.

How to plan your activities in advance

When deciding what activities to do, always write a list of everything you want to do, the most important one starting first. Whatever activities you decide, always phone the business if you need to and discuss with them their availability for the dates you wish to use their equipment.

Discussing your activity with the business just ensures that you don’t have any disappointment when you arrive! If you get there and there are no free appointments or they are closed for the day, it sets you back a little and you don’t get to do the thing you wanted to!

Planning is the best thing you could do for your holiday! Always ensure that you are ready for your break away and everything will always go smoothly and give you time to relax!

Time to relax

Relax In Plymouth UK

Had a stressful few weeks at work? Or maybe you just feel you need that mini break you keep talking about! Well… why not visit Plymouth? Plymouth is well known for its beautiful scenery and for giving you the best accommodation.

Where would I stay?

Hotels, B&B’s, camping and caravanning is a great way to spend you break but what about a beautiful, cosy log chalet instead? Log chalets are a great way to kick back and relax! What about making it even better and have a log chalet with a Jacuzzi or sauna? Now, that is the perfect way to clear your mind!

What’s the difference?

When you stay in a hotel in or around Plymouth, you are confined to that one hotel room that you have purchased. It is great because in most places, you get a free breakfast cooked for you and all you have to do is stroll downstairs and eat away! But, why not have the whole place to yourself and choose when and what you want for breakfast?

When you’re camping in Plymouth, it is exciting and adventurous! But, waking up in the morning cold and damp… that isn’t too exciting. Using a stove to make your own breakfast can be nice but for a woman, with limited utensils… it’s not as great as you would think! But in a log chalet, you have everything… and warmth!

Caravanning in Plymouth is a wonderful thing to do and is fun for all of the family! But when you are limited to the space you have, it can get a little cramped. A log chalet gives you the free run of all the house and with separate rooms instead of having your beds all in one, that can be the perfect solution for a bigger family!

Why put yourself through more stress when you should be enjoying your relaxing break? A log chalet is the perfect opportunity to relax and do your own thing, in your own time. Whether you arrive in the cold weather and you decide to put the log fire on, or it is the summer and you open all of the doors and windows and relax on the decking!

Whatever you decide to do around Plymouth, whether that be to squirrel yourself away in your beautiful chalet for the weekend or go on adventures all day long… you can always come back to a warm shower, hot tub and then hop in the sauna before the tea is cooked! To me, that sounds like the perfect getaway, for all of the family!

Working away

Log Chalet Bed, Plymouth

When I used to work for a financial advisor company, I used to stay in a little log chalet in Plymouth. Every time I stayed, I would enjoy the peace and quiet of my own company. With a delightful open fire and a nice warm cup of tea, I would enjoy the tranquillity that Plymouth had to offer.

The dreaded hotel

Staying in a bland hotel was a regular thing of mine when I worked away, and even though a good night’s sleep was had, I was never fully satisfied with my stay. I would receive a lovely complimentary breakfast in the morning, I nice warm hotel and I friendly face greeting me every time I walked in, but something just wasn’t quite there.

The day I found my true love

One day, I stumbled upon a beautiful little log chalet on a walk around Plymouth and I was so jealous of what the people staying in it were enduring! I decided to have a look online at the log chalet to see how much it was. I expected it to be expensive and not worth staying there for the time I was away… but I was so wrong!

The delightful price

When I realised how much the log chalet was, I was so shocked! It was not really any different to the price of staying in a hotel! And although the free breakfast, ready and cooked for you wasn’t available and the friendly staff greeting you did not exist… it seemed so worth it!

The first time

I decided that the next time I had to work away in Plymouth or the surrounding areas, I would stay in a log chalet, so that is exactly what I did! I was so unbelievably pleased with the log chalet that I recommended it to everybody I met!

My first night in the log chalet was delightful! I could never get used to going back to hotels and B&B’s as it was just never the same! Now, whenever I work away or take my family away for the week or weekend, I always look for a log chalet as there is just no other feeling than being cocooned in a stunning wooden chalet, with an open fire and being able to do what you want while you stay there.
